Did you know you’re supposed to have your oil changed every 3,000-5,000 miles? This puts less wear and tear on the engine.
Your vehicle’s oil filter sifts out contaminants allowing the oil to flow through the engine, unobstructed. However, if the oil filter does become clogged or blocked with contaminants, they will end up flowing around the filter. When this happens, it is a safety mechanism. That being said, you don’t want to wait so long to change your filter that this happens.
If you do decide to change the filter, please do so responsibly and do not dispose of it yourself. Take used filters to a shop or facility that can dispose of them for you. If you throw out a seemingly innocent filter into a leaking landfill, you can unknowingly contaminate up to 62,000 gallons of ground water.
